The Olympic Games is the biggest international sporting and cultural event in the world. Cape Town's Bid had reached the final shortlist of bidding cities. This is a remarkable achievement, given South Africa's recent transformation; its social and economic characteristics; the fact that the Bid, unlike the other four cities on the shortlist, was largely sponsored by the private sector; and the stringent requirements set by the International Olympic Committee. Trademark Design contributed a series of over 50 pictograms and event signs designed for the City of Cape Town's Olympic Bid. As reference for the design concept, African rock paintings were used to style muscular thighs and shoulders.
