Trademarks
A small village in the Southern Cape peninsula is being threatened with unsustainable development and may alter "the sense of place". Trademark Design undertook to assist with creating a positive and sustainable identity for the village. After conducting a concept survey via email, the villagers agreed unanimously that the lighthouse was the most recognizable icon. This set the subject of the design requirement. Metaphorically speaking, a lighthouse is a beacon of direction and hope, although lighthouses have been used many times for various identities throughout the world The challenge was to create a unique visual point of different. A pictographic combination of a lighthouse and a person's welcoming open arms set against an escutcheon of the turquoise ocean of the bay, combined with the call to action "sustain our environment" received immediate acceptance and memorable recognition of Kommetjie.
